Together for Sustainability (TfS) is an industry collaboration focused on driving improvements in terms of supply chain sustainability in the chemical industry. TfS brings together 19 players in the chemical industry to adopt a harmonized set of assessment and audit processes, running on a common platform to achieve significant, measurable CSR performance improvements in its supply chain.

Key Facts

  • 17 members (plus 2 more onboarding)
  • 200 billion* Euro in spend

With business activities becoming more global and supply chains more complex it is
crucial for companies to understand the sustainability impact across a product’s entire value chain. Selecting suppliers and evaluating supplier relationships by considering not only economic conditions but also environmental, social, and ethical aspects allows Together for Sustainability (TfS) members to drive improvements throughout entire supply chain and move towards sustainable sourcing. The purpose of the Together for Sustainability Initiative is to collaborate to assess and improve supply chain sustainability in the chemical industry, globally.

TfS’ strategy is to Develop and implement a global supplier engagement program to assess and improve sustainability practices within the supply chain of companies from the chemical sector. The program covers the following areas: Management, Environment, Health & Safety, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Governance.

Since the beginning of the collaboration between EcoVadis and TfS in 2011, the sustainability performance of 4,600 suppliers has been rated within the TfS initiative based on EcoVadis assessments from suppliers all around the globe; 460 Audits have been conducted according to the TfS Audit process.

Re-assessments have been conducted in Europe, Asia and America and improvement has been recognized in all regions. More than 70% of the suppliers that are assessed more than once by Ecovadis improve overall, showing a positive evolution in either one or more than one of the CSR themes considered (Environment, Labor Practices, Fair Business Practices and Sustainable Procurement). This illustrates the potential of TfS to drive supply chain sustainability in the chemical industry.

“With more than 70% of suppliers improving their scores upon second evaluation, this has given us great confidence in the effectiveness of EcoVadis rating and collaboration system.”

Rüdiger Eberhard, President of TfS and Chief Procurement Officer of Evonik Industries.
