From the dawn of the jet age sustainability has been a constant driver of innovation in the aviation industry, from the general public wanting noise reduction and reduced CO2 emissions to operators demanding ever greater fuel efficiency. Over the years those pressures have resulted in massive improvements in efficiency, with fuel burn per seat being reduced by up to 80% since the 1950s.
But with sustainability coming under ever greater scrutiny and the first phases of the CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) due to begin in 2020, how will the aviation industry evolve to meet these new challenges? Will further improvements to existing designs be enough or will radical new technologies such as hybrid propulsion and configuration overhauls bring about the dramatic changes needed?
Join Sean Barr, Senior Account Executive at EcoVadis and industry leaders at JetBlue, KLM, and Boeing Capital to discuss these topics at ING’s Sustainability in Aviation Panel.
