SPLC members have identified third-party supplier sustainability rating tools as an important way to evaluate supplier sustainability across a large supply base, to reduce supplier survey fatigue, and to motivate meaningful supplier performance improvement. In this session, participants will hear from procurement organizations in the private and public sectors that are leveraging enterprise-level supplier sustainability ratings.

To get your company to invest staff time and other resources in your sustainable purchasing program requires making a business case to leaders in your organization. The blueprint for building that business case is now available thanks to research conducted by the SPLC. We will present key learnings and practitioner case examples from that research. Then, to highlight and drive home unifying themes regarding challenges and winning strategies, we will utilize gamification to reinforce lessons learned — by playing “Leadership Approval – the GAME“, newly created for the SPLC summit.

About SPLC

Founded in 2013, the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council convenes buyers, suppliers, and public interest advocates to develop programs that simplify and standardize sustainable purchasing efforts by large organizations. The Council has quickly attracted, from a wide variety of sectors and regions, more than 180 members with over $200 billion in collective purchasing power. In 2016, SPLC released Guidance for Leadership in Sustainable Purchasing v2.0, which has been called the “most comprehensive literature to date” on sustainable purchasing. More than one hundred organizations are now using SPLC’s Guidance, resources, and online community of practice to create strategic sustainable purchasing programs, or enhance existing ones.

About SPLC’s 2019 Summit, May 20 – 22, Portland, Oregon 

Following up on the Council’s successful 2018 Summit, the 2019 Summit will bring together 400 leading sustainable purchasing experts and practitioners from a wide variety of sectors and regions for two days of best practice sharing, training, and relationship building. This year’s Summit will feature a robust program, over 60 high-level and inspiring speakers, as well as dozens of interactive workshops, and a Leadership Awards banquet.
